The Prisoner’s Throne by Holly Black
No, the way I love these characters is unhealthy. I still prefer Jude and Cardan but just barely. Just by a hair.
Wren is a tragedy even with her happy ending and there's a part of me that can't help but love her for that.
Oak is a sneaky little bitch, so much like Locke while still being unique and interesting. So much like Locke while still being so different. It's so compelling because I hated Locke and was downright gleeful over his death, only lamenting he never got to feel woeful over Jude being better than him, and yet I adore Oak. It's a wild thing.
The story was a touch draggy at times but well worth it for everything else. It was still easily 5 stars because wow. The feelings, the twists, the fear, the uncertainty. I will read anything that comes out of Elfhame GREEDILY and I will eagerly read anything with any of these chatacters. I love them all and I love Holly Black's writing.
"If one of them asked for the sun, he'd better figure out how to pluck it from the sky without getting burned."
"After being away from Elfhame for so long, he is being crammed back into a role he no longer remembers how to fit into."
