Feral Wolf by Susanne Valenti & Caroline Peckham

Just as an aside for the whole Zodiacverse, can we maybe stop calling him the savage king at this point in the universe narrative? I get that it’s like fun or whatever, but Lionel’s crimes are well known at this point in the timeline. Let’s let the dead man’s legacy return to what it should have been all along, rather than the egregious and heinous acts cultivated by Lionel.

Hastings chapters were… a nothing burger. We didn’t need that. But at this point, that feels on brand for the authors.

Roary makes me so tired. Shut up, man. Please. You whine like the pussy you are.

For people trying to break out of a high security prison, they sure are fucking a lot.

I hate the “and now Ethan is my bff because we’re moon mated to the same girl” bullshit. It’s such a cheap cop out. No need for growth, introspection, or reflection. Just. “Moon made us homies.” Boring ass shit.

What the fuck… why did we need the potato scene… Plunger is just an off brand Washer that is somehow even more unhinged and we all know I was rooting for that assholes death for the entirety of the ZA series. Why the fuck would I want more of that but worse?

I know they’ve been setting up Rosalie’s ‘moon magic’ stuff since Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac, but it just doesn’t feel like an extension of the magic system to me. If feels like yet another thing the authors threw in as a plot device rather than actually fleshing it out. Dante being a storm dragon and storm dragons being the rarest breed, him being one despite being born of wolves, it all makes sense because there are other examples of it in the universe/magic system. Sure, Orders are dominantly tied to genetics, but they’re also partially tied to birth constellations, i.e. Xavier. This feels reasonable and logical. But the moon wolf stuff? It just feels hollow and gratuitous. There for the sake of being there for plot rather than actually being built from anything.

The tone of your voice didn’t make your point for me, Rosalie. I’m cool with other languages in what I read because we’re a diverse people with a plethora of rich cultures, but when I’m reading, comprehension is kinda important. I want to actually understand the words I’m reading even if it’s due to italicized context after the dialogue is over, a tool utilized by these authors in this series specifically.

More dudes just arguing over a fuckin girl. I’m so bored with this shit.

Okay, so, Leon’s chapter was obviously just a way to plug the RBotZ series (per the authors note) despite Dante being the MUCH more natural segue with his ties to the actual supposed main character of the books.

Anyway, I don’t know if you can really consider what I did here “finishing the book” because I skimmed through 99% of it. It was easy to do, because none of it actually fucking mattered. I’m like… 78% leaning toward just… not reading the next one. I know, I know, one more and then it’s on to Neverkeep and once I finish that and Echo Fort, I can retire the series until book 3 comes out. But, come on. Do I really want to keep torturing myself like this? I’m so unbelievably over all these people and their dumb decisions and the poor plotting and the gratuitous smut. I think I’d honestly give this book zero stars if I could.
