Blood of Hercules by Jasmine Mas
I cannot begin to stress how much I do not care what other people think about this book. It made me laugh my ass off, pure cackles. Sure, the plot was predictable and I knew how it was going to end before I was even halfway through. HOWEVER, Alexis is fucking funny. She very much embodies “wow, you’re so funny!” “Thanks, it’s the trauma.” I love her and I feel no shame for how much I genuinely enjoyed this entire book. Some parts felt a little rushed, but with a book this long that’s trying to pack in that much world building and foreshadowing, it makes sense and I’m not going to hold it as a negative.
Augustus can eat a dick, though. Very unlikeable. So far unredeemed, but we’ll see.
Kharon? Chefs kiss. 10/10. Love you, you freaky little bitch.
My boys Pat and Achilles are divine. I want Achilles to be absolutely feral as hell in the next book. I want him to be a genuine wild man. Pat can get it idc.
Anyway, my husband had to endure a lot more quotes from this book than he’s had to from others because I was giggling in pure joy at some points. Alexis’s ‘conversations’ with God? Got me every time.
I personally didn’t mind the ‘references’. The book is set in 2050 in the USA, post apocalypse, sure, but they still have access to the internet and stuff. Teenage girls are just actually like that. While I may not talk like that, I thought it was apt and an accurate representation of a teenage girl going through a full blown mental crisis.
