The Awakening by Susanne Valenti & Caroline Peckham

Nova is NO Greyshine. I miss that loveable weirdo.

The Awakening is easily better than the entirety of the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac combined. I found Tory and Darcy to be far more compelling protagonists than Elise, each being a lot more steadfast in who they are as people (but we will see how that develops).

Though, semi-depressing, the book is well executed. I was anxious as hell at some bits and positively giddy at others. It wasn’t a literary masterpiece, but I had loads of fun reading it.

As a side note that doesn’t have much to do with this book itself, these characters were MUCH better stacked for a reverse harem/why choose than the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac. In the RBotZ, hardly any of them like each other or even get along. In ZA, all four boys are close knit and their energies screams “let’s take her together”. It just makes more sense, and I would have been way less surprised by that outcome because of how forced it wouldn’t have felt. Just a nitpick, I don’t know.
