Ruthless Fae by Susanne Valenti & Caroline Peckham
Caleb “someone’s trying to humiliate me” Altair can’t put two and two together that him and his glorified frat buddies tortured the Vegas for weeks on end and now all of a sudden SOMEONE is trying to ruin his reputation? Oh my, wonder who in Solaria that could possibly be.
Anyway, I’m firmly in team Tory and Caleb because holy chemistry. Don’t get me wrong, I like the semi-flirting we get with Tory and Darius, but it’s just nothing compared to Caleb, not mentioning the fact that Darius actively tortured Tory. Tory and Darcy’s “payback” on Caleb is harmless enough that it doesn’t damage their relationship in my eyes. He stays as much out of the fight as he can, and Tory rewards him for what little participating he does with her Pegasus fun.
If Seth has no haters, I’m dead. I cannot stand him, I do not care what happens, I will hate him always. Nothing he does is justifiable to me and I want to smack him down. I want Darcy and Tory to smack him down.
Love seeing the girls enter their bad queen era.
Overall, I think the pacing of Zodiac Academy (so far) is way better than the Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac. Too much emphasis was put on the boys POV’s in that series for the narrative to be about Elise and her brother. It feels like the authors had a clearer picture in mind of what they wanted Zodiac Academy to be by comparison. So, while the Heirs are getting their own POV’s, the authors are still staying true to the fact that this series is about Darcy and Tory’s journey and giving them the narrative torch. It makes more sense which helps with the pacing. (So, the authors obviously understand character agency to some degree, why didn’t we get this with the Ruthless Boys??)
I’m having fun reading this series and Caleb makes me giddy like a little school girl. Darcy is still my favorite character overall, and I can’t blame her for salivating over Orion because same. Same since the Ruthless Boys.
