Revelations by Melissa de la Cruz
The best one so far.
I should have trusted my gut about Bliss. She was too compelling and interesting for it to not turn out the way it did.
The set dressing to world building ratio finally balanced into something beautiful and workable. The plot moved so much more smoothly and was so much more gripping.
Schuyler is fifteen, as I keep reminding myself to justify her selfish behavior. She acts like a fifteen year old and that can be wearisome, but I get it. What I don’t get is the Jack preference. We see her being friends with Bliss, their interactions and how they support each other. Therefore, their friendship makes sense. It didn’t spring out of nowhere and it doesn’t subsist on nothing. With Oliver, we see him supporting her, see how he loves her, see how they interact with each other. So, him being in love with her makes sense because we see it unfold in their connection to each other. Given that, her devotion to and love for Jack makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. We don’t actually see what it is about him that makes her love him. We don’t see him treating her in a way that demonstrates love. They hook up in secret, and I think it’s just the exhilaration of the forbiddenness of it that she’s confusing for love.
My poor Oliver. They’ll never make me hate you.
Mimi, fucks sake, they’ll never make me love you.
